iPhone 16: Apple should improve microphones – for good reason

Will everything stay the same again? What the iPhone 16 will look like is still open.

The famously reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims to have discovered details about the microphone built into the iPhone 16. This comes with a real surprise.

Up to now, we haven’t had the feeling that the person we were talking to couldn’t understand us when we were on the phone with the current iPhone 15 Pro Max (test report) or the iPhone 15 (test report). On the contrary – the microphones installed in Apple smartphones are actually extremely good compared to the competition.

Nevertheless, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on an improvement. In a blog post on Medium, the analyst describes what the aim of this development is.

New microphone to improve AI and Siri experience

Apple’s primary goal is not to improve the voice quality of phone calls. Rather, the iPhone inventor has the improvement of Siri’s artificial intelligence in mind. “Strengthening Siri’s hardware and software capabilities and specifications is key to advancing AI-generated content,” the article on Medium states.

The new microphone should also improve the signal-to-noise ratio and be even more weatherproof. According to reports, Siri will become significantly more powerful with iOS 18 at the latest and will be able to answer many questions with the help of AI that have so far gone unanswered.

Observers therefore assume that an improved Siri experience could even become one of the main selling points of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. We expect Apple to unveil the new iPhone in fall 2024.
